Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)

The mission of the Dept of CSE is drawn from the vision of MIST. The four-pronged missions of the Dept of CSE are as under.

• To provide comprehensive education and conduct research in diverse disciplines of science, engineering, technology, and engineering management.
   
• To produce technologically advanced intellectual leaders and professionals with high moral and ethical values to meet the socio-economic development of Bangladesh and global needs.
   
• To conduct collaborative and research activities with national and international communities for continuous interaction with academia and industry.
   
• To provide consultancy, advisory, and testing services to government, industrial, educational, and other organizations by rendering technical support for widening practical knowledge and to contribute to sustainable socio-economic development.

Undergraduate level: BSc in CSE
Masters Programme: MSc in CSE, M Engg in Computer Science
Doctoral Programme: Ph.D. in CSE

Short Courses: Based on the requirement from the students, Govt establishments, industry, etc. dynamic short courses of one to four weeks are conducted by the department of CSE. Some of the recent short courses include a Certificate course on Cyber Security, Server Management, Mobile app development, etc. 

The dept of CSE provides for a conducive learning environment for the students in the form of state of the art classrooms and well equipped laboratories. While the classrooms provide an opportunity to learn the technical aspect of the subject, the laboratories provides an opportunity for the students to have an “hands on" experience on technology and thus innovate. The air-conditioned classrooms with broadband wifi, projection system, document readers are an ideal place for collaborative learning. In addition to the existing 8 laboratories which include AI lab, PG research lab, Networking lab, a cyber-gym is bing funded by Dept of ICT Bangladesh. The cyber-gym is likely to be functional by end of 2020 and will provide an ideal platform for students to specialize in the field of cyber attack and cyber defense.

Department of CSE strives for its students to excel not only in academics but also research work. With over 80 conference papers and 12 journal publication since 2015, Our students and faculty are actively present in the ECE research arena. With industrial training at over 12 reputed companies, UG students also get professional exposure during their stay at MIST. The department also hosts relevant conferences and seminars with the most recent being the seminar on “Growing cyber threats around the world and preparedness for Bangladesh”, where the Hon’ble Minister of State was the chief guest with many renowned speakers from the govt. and industry. The dept. also got the honor of hosting the 18th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) on 2015 and is preparing to host the iCEEiCT-2021 along with EECE dept of MIST.

Guided by learned Faculty members and Supported by MIST authority, undergraduate and post-graduate students gained many achievements over the years from competing in the MARS rover challenge in the USA to winning multiple best paper awards at home and abroad. The talented and self-motivated students always continuously prove their worth by successfully competing and winning various awards in numerous hackathons, programming contents, idea and innovation competitions, and in prestigious conferences and seminars.

Dept of CSE is not only focused on academic development but also development of communication and leadership skills of its students. Dept of CSE always encourages and gives support to the students to take part in different activities through which they can nurture there social, leadership and managerial skills. Our students promptly take part in cultural competitions, debate competitions, leadership development programs etc. and have certainly proved their capabilities in the above activities. CSE dept is consecutive champion in inter dept cultural competition and in inter dept debate competition for the last two years. Our students have also proved the as themselves in the field of sports as well. They  won the championship and runners-up trophies in athletics and cricket tournament respectively for our department in 2019. Our students also know how to have a little fun in spite of their academic involvements. They arrange intra dept gaming (computers!) fest and cricket fest yearly.
